HERA Conference 2018
For its 10th Annual Conference, the 2018 HERA conference, 7-10 March 2018, returns to the site of its first annual conference, the historic and iconic Palmer House in Chicago, across the street from the Chicago Art Institute, the Chicago Symphony, the Chicago Theatre District, and a few blocks from the Chicago Lyric Opera. It is near the city center, public transit, the train station, shopping and sightseeing, and accessible by transit from the airport. The special discounted HERA rate for the conference (including the days before and after the conference) is $139.
The Humanities Education and Research Association [HERA] conference is a refereed, peer-reviewed conference. The 2018 general theme is "Humanities through the Ages." Disciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches are welcome. (Please see the attached CFP for a more detailed description.) Formed in 2007, HERA is an educational, non-profit organization, devoted to facilitating inclusive and non-heirarchal conversations and exchanges in the Humanities (in the broadest definition of the Humanities). Since 2009 (the first conference), San Francisco State University LCA faculty and graduate students have had a high level of representation at the HERA conferences, which includes worldwide participants. There is also a peer-reviewed academic journal, Interdisciplinary Humanities, to which HERA members and conference participants may submit. Professor Sarita Cannon and I serve on the HERA Board of Directors. The HERA website is: http://www.h-e-r-a.org
New this year, HERA introduces the HERA Undergraduate Research Prize, a prize of $1,000 awarded to the best undergraduate conference paper (or divided among a panel of papers), sponsored by an attending professor (with a $500 prize awarded to the professor). See HERA’s website for more details.
Creative presentations, readings, and exhibitions are also welcomed.
