Andrew Murphy
I am a poet and fiction writer, and began teaching at SF State in 2014. I have taught English 104/105, 214, and classes in the creative writing department. I also teach at Skyline College in San Bruno, California.
After graduating from U.C. Santa Cruz many moons ago in economics and history, I worked in the non-profit sector for twenty years, mostly in the fields of financial education and economic justice. I received my M.A. in English and M.F.A. in Creative Writing from San Francisco State.
I teach English because I believe writing matters, that even in school we can write about what matters to us, and that by reading with intention we can become better writers. My interests include American and Irish literature, the non-cognitive factors that contribute to academic success, social justice, and oral history.
I live in San Francisco with my wife, and have strong connections to Ireland, where I have lived on and off over the past decade or so.
