James Gilligan
( He/Him/His )Jim Gilligan earned his M.A. in English from Queens College, City University of New York and his Ph.D. in Curriculum & Instruction with an emphasis on secondary English education from Purdue University. Professor Gilligan’s research interests include English/Language Arts teacher education, Young Adult literature, LGBTQ issues in education, social justice in education, and factors that affect practitioners’ ability to integrate their private, public, and professional identities. He teaches courses in the English education program, and — although he is one of the newest members of the English department faculty — Professor Gilligan has enjoyed a lengthy career in education as a high school teacher, an undergraduate instructor, a student teaching supervisor, and an administrator. Professor Gilligan’s publications address queer issues in Young Adult literature as well as queer bullying and gender non-conforming students.
