In my teaching I try to focus the course content on you, the students. I believe learning should be super fun and interactive, and I set up my courses so students can learn from each other, teach each other, and teach me as well. Beyond talking about topics you might expect in a writing class, like language choices and audience awareness, we also discuss topics and issues that you choose, based on who you are and what you think is important. I use a contract grading system to allow you to adjust to college writing as you adjust to college life. Ultimately, this course is about using questioning, reading and writing to discover your new interests and passions based on lots of enriching new experiences in the community of SF State. And the most exciting part of my class: after you complete my course, you will have the opportunity to teach your own 1-unit course on a topic that’s relevant to you, through the Experimental College of SF State — students teaching students, knowledge being created by you!
